I've now been using the WebEx service for a couple of months to run Sitemorse training sessions for all new clients and everyone that has renewed since Jan 1 this year.
Apart from a few minor glitches it's been great.
The basics of the service are that I can schedule a training session, define the attendees, send them invites with details of how to connect into the session and then run the session at the appointed time. When people have connected into the meeting and dialled into the conference call I can then "share" my desktop and attendees can see what I see on my desktop and see my mouse movements and anything I type in. So running training sessions or demos is very simple.
We used to run demos by getting people to log-in to a demo account on the Sitemorse website and talk them through what to click on and when. OK if there was just one person but it quickly becomes a nightmare as you add more people. In contrast I ran a training session a couple of weeks ago for 12 people and only needed to check once, at the beginning of the session, that everyone could see my desktop.
And it works for the attendees as well.
Over 86% of them thought that the WebEx service was above average or excellent as a means of delivering the training.
And in terms of effectiveness of the training - they rated the average level of their confidence in being able to use the full Sitemorse service at 4.3 out of 5 following the session.
The different usages we'll make of the service are numerous. I ran a session with the development team last week where I started the session went through a couple of items then handed control to one of the developers while he demo'd the latest updates to a new system and then he handed it to one of the sales guys to see how easy and intuitive he found using it. We could all watch and see how he used it, where he hesitated, where his mouse wondered while trying to locate something etc etc. Great.
I'll soon be starting regular, scheduled training sessions for anyone to attend and because it's so simple I'll also be able to schedule quick (10 mins) sessions dedicated to particular features that users need further info on or when new features of changes are made.
Watch out in the Newsletters for info on sessions coming up.
